The Teachers
John Barthelmes • Owner/Artistic Director
Acting, Musical Theatre, Improv, Piano
John spends his time around area performing, directing, playing piano and sometimes writing with many different theatre and dance groups. He also loves making very large sculptures out of balloons. John is a regular performer with Nuts & Bolts Comedy Improv, Joey and Maria's Comedy Wedding with Great Lakes Productions and regularly performs in a two-man variety act titled "Solo". He has also been featured in productions performing in Montreal, Milwaukee, Las Vegas and New York City.
During the day John is an instructor of Acting and Computer Science at St. John Fisher College where he also produces a One Act play festival and a Theatre-In-A-Day event featuring the talents of local playwrights.
John's greatest joy is working with children in theatre. He runs several summer theatre camps as well as fall and spring acting and musical theatre workshops. John's Sunday mornings throughout the school year are spent with Sunday School children writing and performing their own musicals. And now he brings his energy and excitement to Fairport!
One of John's goals is to make sure children are having fun on stage while helping them discover and develop their own talents.
Brittany Balandis • Musical Theatre, Dance
Brittany has co-directed and choreographed numerous shows in the area, as well as performed at a professional level regionally and nationally. Brittany has also been the director for the Brooks Hill Elementary School Drama Club for the past two years. Her credits include:
The Lion King, Oliver, Honk, Bye Bye Birdie, Little Red Riding Hood, The King and I, Anything Goes, Beauty and the Beast, The Nutcracker.
Christine Blonsky • Voice Instructor
Christine currently teaches General and Choral music for the Fairport Central School District. She received her Bachelors in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Ithaca College and her Masters in Music Education from Nazareth College.Christine is proud to be a judge for the Rochester Broadway Theater League's "Stars of Tomorrow" program. Her performance experience has included choral, opera, musical theatre and recital work with Ithaca College, Blackfriars Theater and on stage in Rome, Italy.
Marilyn Stevens • Musical Theatre, Kindermusik
Marilyn is pleased to be a part of the Spotlight Staff. As an advocate of the Arts and multiple learning intelligences, she infused music, song and theatre arts into every area of her primary school teaching career. Known for her eagerness to try new methods and materials, she employed the Mozart Theory as an alternative assessment and rewrote existing curricula to utilize song, motion, rhyme and rhythm in her first grade classroom. A former nominee for the Disney Teacher Award, Marilyn embraces music and its relevance in developmental learning. She is married, the mother of three terrifically musical sons, and currently works with the Musical Theatre staff at Spotlight. As a lifelong learner, she enjoys musical theatre, children's theatre arts and voice.

Kaitlyn Zorn • Musical Theatre
Kaitlyn is currently studying in the Arts for Children major at SUNY Brockport. She has been acting, singing, dancing and working with children for a number of years. A Fairport native and graduate of FHS, Kaitlyn currently works with Gananda Community Youth Theatre as a Stage Manager, with Greece Arcadia Middle School and Gananda Middle School as Choreographer and will be working with John this summer on a two-week intensive program at Stages. Her favorite performance rolls include Jesus in Godspell and Taylor in Disney's High School Musical (premier production at Stages in 2006) but has also been seen in Into the Woods, Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph, Beauty and the Beast and It's A Wonderful Life. After graduation Kaitlyn hopes to open a day care center focused around Arts Education.
